Product Stewardship

When Pioneer Hi-Bred introduces a new product, we're in it for the long haul. Our philosophy of product stewardship means that every step of the way – from initial research to the discontinuation of a product – we're responsible for managing the life cycle of our technologies for maximum product value, benefits, and longevity. That's why Pioneer requires all growers comply with regulations, Pioneer policies and crop management strategies specific to the product. Here are a few examples:

Insect Resistance Management

Pioneer requires that all growers purchasing hybrids with Herculex ® I Insect Protection, Herculex ® RW Rootworm Protection, Herculex ® XTRA Insect Protection or the YieldGard ® Corn Borer gene sign a Pioneer Hi-Bred Technology Agreement. By signing, the grower agrees to implement an insect resistance management (IRM) program as specified in the Product Use Guide and to cooperate with insect resistance management programs and research.

Weed Resistance Management

Growers have widely embraced herbicide tolerance technology because it provides convenient, effective and economical weed control in crops. However, intensive long-term use of any single herbicide mode of action can lead to the development of weed resistance. Integrated management practices can minimize this risk, while at the same time providing growers with a more consistent and effective weed control program.

Grain Marketing

All Pioneer commercial products are fully approved in the United States, Canada and Japan. However, grain and certain grain byproducts from some products might not be approved for import into all markets. Pioneer customers are advised to discuss trait acceptance policies with their local grain handler prior to delivering grain containing biotech traits.

Excellence Through Stewardship®

The Excellence Through Stewardship initiative promotes the responsible development and use of agricultural biotechnology by providing stewardship and quality management programs for the full life cycle of biotech products.
