Pioneer Hi-Bred Responding to Customer Needs with Optimum® GLY Canola

Glyphosate-Tolerant Crop to Bring Choice to Farmers

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, May 29, 2012- Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, has received Canadian regulatory approval for cultivation, feed and food use of Optimum® GLY brand canola, its proprietary glyphosate-tolerant canola. This regulatory milestone brings Pioneer one step closer to offering farmers additional glyphosate-tolerant options in canola.

"Pioneer's Optimum® GLY canola will meet farmer demand for this advanced weed control option, provide greater marketplace choice and increased application flexibility," said Ian Grant, president of the Canadian operations. "Canada's regulatory approval brings Pioneer closer to providing additional cutting-edge technologies to canola farmers, along with the strong yields and strong agronomic performance of Pioneer genetics."

Optimum® GLY canola was developed, in part, through exclusive DNA shuffling technology to provide tolerance to glyphosate herbicide and offer greater convenience for growers. Pioneer expects to commercialize the product mid-decade, pending key regulatory approvals from export markets globally.

In Western Canada, Canola plantings are anticipated to be up 10 percent in 2012 over last year's record high, and as Canada's number one cash crop, canola is expected to continue to grow in acres over the next 10 years. Pioneer is a leader in the Canadian canola market and has worked with growers since 1989 to maximize their productivity and profitability. As the market continues to grow, Pioneer has aggressive plans to expand the canola business and bring additional value to growers.

"Our goal is to provide growers added convenience for weed control in canola," noted Grant. "Pioneer offers a wide variety of canola hybrids to get the right product on the right acre, and delivers top yields with critical defensive traits."
