DuPont Pioneer Congratulates 2014 Corn Yield Contest Winners

Growers Using Pioneer® Brand Seed Won Nine National Titles

DES MOINES, Iowa, Dec. 19, 2014 - DuPont Pioneer congratulates the winners of nine national and 238 state titles in the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) 2014 yield contest who used Pioneer® brand seed to achieve top yields. Results of its annual contest were announced by NCGA today and demonstrate the quality and yield potential for growers using Pioneer brand hybrids.

In all, growers in Georgia, Maryland, Missouri, Texas and Virginia using seven different Pioneer brand genetic platforms placed in the six national categories in the NCGA contest for 2014. Frequent yield contest winner David Hula of Charles City, Virginia achieved a staggering 476 bushels per acre using Pioneer P1794VYHR^ brand corn on his 2014 contest plot.

"Pioneer hybrids have consistently provided leading yields in the annual NCGA contest, and this year is no different," said Steve Reno, DuPont Pioneer vice president, regional director -- U.S. and Canada. "This demonstrates the value of elite Pioneer germplasm coupled with industry-leading traits and technologies to attain peak performance."

Among state winners, Pioneer hybrids placed in 238 entries, demonstrating the strong genetic potential in Pioneer seed products sold across the country. The Pioneer team backs up top-performing hybrids with a team of experienced, local agronomic professionals to help ensure that each grower has the best possible hybrid for use on each acre for maximum yield. Pioneer also offers EncircaSM services to assist growers with input management and additional whole-farm solutions to help maximize the productivity of every acre and every seed.

These strong results in the NCGA contest come in a year where many Pioneer customers experienced personal record yields in their fields and farms. Overall, growers who planted Pioneer brand hybrids had more entries that topped 300 bushels/acre than any other brand in this year's contest.

"Pioneer is proud of all of its 2014 Yield Heroes, and none more so than this select group of contest winners," Reno said. "These growers set the example for what is possible when the best genetics meet the best management practices, including putting data to work in the field, and we can't wait to see what Pioneer brand hybrids produce for U.S. growers in 2015."

The NCGA Corn Yield contest is an annual U.S. national competition among corn growers with the goal of capitalizing on the high genetic yield potential of today's corn hybrids. It also encourages the development of sustainable new and innovative management practices resulting in higher yields. Growers compete in six corn production classes, including non-irrigated, no-till/strip-till non-irrigated, irrigated and no-till/strip-till irrigated classes.
