Pioneer Hi-Bred Launches New Program to Deliver Agronomic Innovations to Growers in Iowa & Missouri

Provides Additional Resources, Expertise to Help Growers Increase Productivity

DES MOINES, Iowa, Feb. 23, 2011 – Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, announced a new program that provides additional resources and expertise to deliver agronomic innovations to growers in Iowa and Missouri. The C-Pro™ program, which stands for Crop Production Trials, will be Pioneer’s main tool for developing and delivering locally based agronomic information to help growers in Iowa and Missouri maximize productivity and profitability. C-Pro™ trials complement the broad-based agronomic information already provided to growers by Pioneer.

C-Pro™ trials will provide local on-farm agronomy trials of Pioneer® brand products and technologies under a variety of management techniques. The program is designed to identify best management practices under a variety of conditions, including the analysis of critical factors such as row spacing, soil type, planting rate, fungicide application and nitrogen application.

“Yield gains historically have been achieved through a combination of improved genetics and management practices,” said Todd Frazier, Pioneer business director for Iowa and Missouri. “C-Pro™ trials will provide growers with management recommendations for their unique growing conditions to maximize productivity using the latest Pioneer genetics and technologies."

C-Pro™ builds on the IMPACT™ trial program Pioneer announced last fall. IMPACT™ trials provide local testing of multiple products at the last stage before they are advanced for sale to growers. C-Pro™ trials provide the next level of local agronomy testing using a variety of management techniques once products are available for planting.

Growers who participate in a C-Pro™ trial on their farms will have the opportunity to interact with Pioneer agronomy trial managers, research experts, sales professionals, account managers and area agronomists and participate in agronomic performance evaluations. While the majority of C-Pro™ trial locations have been identified for the 2011 growing season, all Pioneer customers will benefit from the information that is generated as part of these trials.

“Pioneer has conducted on-farm research since the 1940’s. C-Pro™ trials build on that foundational expertise by adding additional resources and leveraging precision agriculture technologies,” said Frazier.

Pioneer has hired four agronomy trial managers in Iowa and Missouri to focus exclusively on the design, implementation and analysis of these plots.

C-Pro™ trials will be integrated with Pioneer FIT® Services, which provide growers with mapping and planning tools to help manage products field-by-field to maximize returns. The tools show yield performance of specific fields and demonstrate how management decisions throughout the growing season affected the overall outcome.

C-Pro™ and IMPACT™ trials are just two of the many investments Pioneer is making in Iowa and Missouri to help growers increase productivity to meet the growing demand for grain. In recent months, Pioneer has announced plans for new research facilities and space for 400 new research positions based in Johnston, Iowa; a new corn research center in Orange City, Iowa; a new soybean production location in New Madrid, Mo., and a new sales area in Missouri.
