DuPont Pioneer Hosts Corn Planter Clinics Across Western Canada

Hundreds attend informational clinics for the second year

Saskatoon, SK Mar. 25, 2014 - New corn growers from Western Canada learned the basics of planting corn and how to properly set, use and maintain planting equipment through a series of Pioneer Corn Planter Clinics last week. Experts from DuPont Pioneer and various implement manufacturers led growers through a full day of planter knowledge.

"Corn has the potential to become a valuable rotational crop in Western Canada, expanding the crop choices for area growers," said Dave Vanthuyne, DuPont Pioneer area agronomist. "Pioneer works with growers to share crop information and best management practices to help ensure their success throughout the season."

Throughout the five sessions held March 17-21, Pioneer estimates that close to 1,000 people attended. Growers from across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Colombia travelled to the clinics to increase their knowledge and understanding of corn production. This is the second year Pioneer has offered the clinics, which attracted close to 550 people in 2013. In addition to offering these full-day clinics for new corn growers, Pioneer reps and agronomists work closely with farmers all season long with sound agronomic advice to help achieve high yields.

Growers heard from Bill Lemkuhl, an independent crop consultant and farmer from Minster, Ohio. He owns and operates Precision Agri Services, Inc., an agricultural and environmental consulting firm. Lemkuhl led the participants through a planter overview from ‘Hitch Pin to Closing Wheels' making sure a poorly adjusted planter can be identified and  understanding the impact of improperly set planters.

Growers also learned about corn production using a ‘Systems Approach,' had a comprehensive planter overview and learned about new developments from implement participants.
