Honduras: Shelling Out Help to an Agriculture-Focused School

  • Situation: The Pan-American Agriculture School has a small seed plant at its university. However, the corn sheller had deteriorated to the point that it was in need of replacement.

  • Solution: An unused Pioneer sheller located in the Philippines was cleaned, painted and shipped to the university.

  • Result: The donation brought the seed plant back to life, and helped students learn first-hand about the seed business.

Profile - Honduras: Shelling Out Help to an Agriculture-Focused School

Pan-American Agriculture School-Zamorano, Honduras, is a private international university where students strengthen their values, develop character and leadership skills and actively train how to learn. Institutional research and outreach at Zamorano are recognized for generating creative integral solutions, focusing on the rural communities, forests and watersheds, small and large agricultural and agro-industrial businesses and regional and global markets.

Several years ago, a group of Pioneer retirees helped set up a small seed plant at the university. A corn sheller was installed but had deteriorated to the point that it was in need of replacement.

The school, through contacts with two of its alumni who work for Pioneer, learned that an unused Pioneer sheller located in the Philippines would be perfect for the situation. That sheller was cleaned, painted and shipped to the university, bringing the seed plant back to life.
