During his career at Pioneer, Jack Cavanah was involved in the development of 82 corn inbreds and 38 commercial corn hybrids.

Cavanah has served on numerous Crop Science Society of America, American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) and international plant breeding research committees, most recently having served as president of the International Association of Plant Breeders for the Protection of Plant Varieties (ASSINSEL).

In 2000, the year he retired, Cavanah received ASTA's Distinguished Service Award and was named an American Society of Agronomy Fellow.
