Soybean Pest and Disease Guides

Soybean Aphids

Pioneer researchers first screen plants in a growth chamber to select the best plants. Then they create and maintain a micro environment with a heavy infestation of soybean aphids.

Soybean Cyst Nematode

Pioneer is pursuing the development of a transgenic solution that can provide resistance or immunity to all known races of SCN. This will provide growers with higher yields than traditional, resistant varieties already on the market.

Asian Soybean Rust

Pioneer is focusing on traits that will provide resistance and/or slow-rusting tolerance to Asian soybean rust. When rust is present, Pioneer soybean varieties with genetic tolerance to rust will have greater yield potential and will require less fungicide treatment than susceptible varieties, increasing grower profitability.

White Mold

Utilizing a white mold nursery is one of many tools Pioneer uses to develop genetic tolerance to white mold. Inside the nurseries, pathogens are isolated so researchers can see how specific genes react to this disease. Pioneer has several nurseries located throughout North America.
