Savoy, IL., July 13, 2006 — The American Dairy Science Association is proud to announce William P. Weiss of The Ohio State University as the 2006 recipient of the Pioneer Hi-Bred Forage Award. The award was presented on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The Pioneer Hi-Bred Forage Award recognizes outstanding research (basic and/or applied) and/or educational contributions in the area of forage production, processing, storage, or utilization. The recipient must have made significant contributions in forage production, processing, storage, and utilization in one or more areas such as basic and applied forage research and/or education, including technology transfer and extension, and application of forage information to producers and public.
William Weiss is a professor with a research and extension appointment in the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University. He is recognized internationally for his research on the relationships of forage fiber structure and chemistry on nitrogen and carbohydrate utilization; forage harvest and storage; and quantification of feedstuff energy concentrations. He has authored or coauthored one book, seven book chapters, 80 peer-reviewed journal articles, 64 abstracts, and 177 popular press and extension publications. He served on the Board of Agriculture’s Committee on Animal Nutrition, contributing to the 2001 Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle publication and software.
