Corn Rootworm I: Biology and Management

Corn rootworm (CRW) is one of the most damaging pests of corn. The larval stage of this pest feeds on corn roots, reducing root mass and causing yield loss and lodging. Management practices for CRW are typically targeted against the larval stage and include crop rotation, soil insecticides, seed-applied insecticides and transgenic hybrids. This Crop Insights discusses biology and management strategies for controlling both larval and adult corn rootworms, including Poncho® 1250 seed-applied insecticide for larval CRW control.
