Statement on DuPont Agreement with Delta and Pine Land Company

Agreement Extends Optimum™ GAT™ to Global Cotton Farmers

DES MOINES, Iowa, July 3, 2006 -- Dean Oestreich, president, DuPont (NYSE: DD) subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., issued the following statement on the announcement of the DuPont agreement with Delta and Pine Land Company:

"With today's announcement, global cotton farmers will now have access to a key new option for weed control that will help optimize yield. Pioneer is proud of its relationship with Delta and Pine Land Company, the world's largest cotton seed company, and appreciates their commitment to Optimum™ GAT™ technology.

"This sets the stage for Delta and Pine Land to become a significant customer for GreenLeaf Genetics LLC, a joint venture with Syngenta announced in April. Through GreenLeaf Genetics, D&PL will license soybean lines and Optimum™ GAT™ for soybeans. GreenLeaf Genetics will continue to work with other key independent seed companies in the near future to align strategies for both corn and soybean germplasm and traits and offer commercial terms on Optimum™ GAT™.

"Pioneer has the richest product pipeline in our history. With high- performing genetics, new technologies and the know-how to drive value for our customers, Optimum™ GAT™ is just one of many innovations growers can benefit from in the coming years."

Optimum™ GAT™ trait developed by DuPont is a new herbicide tolerance technology that makes plants tolerant to both glyphosate and ALS herbicides, including sulfonylureas. Previously DuPont announced plans to commercialize Optimum™ GAT™ in its Pioneer® brand corn and soybeans. In April 2006, DuPont also announced an agreement with Syngenta, the third largest U.S. seed company, granting them the right to use Optimum™ GAT™ in their corn and soybean products.
