BLOOMINGTON, Ill., Aug. 10, 2007 - The 2008 additions to the Pioneer Hi Bred soybean lineup for Illinois offer yield potential and key defensive traits. New varieties with resistance to soybean cyst nematode (SCN), sudden death syndrome (SDS), brown stem rot (BSR) and Phytophthora root rot (PRR) lead the offerings for 2008.
"Pioneer will offer five new soybean varieties containing the Roundup Ready® gene," says Duane Frederking, Pioneer product information manager for Illinois. "We also plan to offer two new conventional soybean varieties and one new low linolenic variety.
Pioneer® soybean variety 92M11 is an early-Group II variety with the Peking source for resistance to SCN races 1, 3 and 5. It also has the Rps1k gene for PRR resistance and the Roundup Ready gene.
Variety 92M54 is a mid-Group II variety with SCN resistance, very good harvest standability and tolerance to BSR. This high-yielding variety also has the Rps1c gene for PRR resistance and the Roundup Ready gene.
A late-Group II variety, 92M81, is highly tolerant to BSR and resistant to SCN. With moderate plant height, it has very good harvest standability and tolerance to SDS. This variety also has the Rps1c gene for PRR resistance and the Roundup Ready gene.
93M61 is a mid-Group III with the yield potential to become the new leader in this maturity. It has a strong defensive package including SCN resistance and the Rps1k gene for PRR resistance. This variety is tolerant to PRR, SDS, BSR and frogeye leaf spot. This variety also has the Roundup Ready gene.
A mid- to late-Group III variety, 93M70, has the Rsp1k gene for PRR resistance and very high yield potential. It is highly tolerant to frogeye leaf spot, tolerant to BSR, moderately tolerant to iron chlorosis and contains the Roundup Ready gene.
Growers have two new conventional choices. Pioneer variety 93M14 is a high-yielding early-Group III with a strong defensive package. It offers resistance to SCN and PRR, high tolerance to BSR and frogeye leaf spot, plus tolerance to SDS.
93M62 is a mid-Group III with exciting yield potential, resistance to SCN and PRR, and outstanding field emergence.
Growers looking for a low linolenic variety for contact production acres can consider 92M82. With high yield potential, this variety offers PRR resistance and very good field emergence.
