Stress Emergence in Corn

Planting start and finish dates continue to push earlier in all areas where corn is produced, and corn acres produced under high-residue farming systems are continuing to grow. These trends increase the likelihood that seeds will be exposed to stressful environmental conditions including cold, wet soils or extended periods of low temperatures. Pioneer has launched a new agronomic rating called stress emergence to help growers in choosing hybrids that are suitable for their specific early-season conditions. This article discusses key factors that impact early-season performance and the new stress emergence ratings.
