Pre-Applied Protection With A Choice of Seed Treatments

Because of increased customer awareness of the effects of insect and other damage on stand establishment and yield, Pioneer scientists conduct ongoing research on new and established pre-applied seed treatments, from multiple sources. These treatments protect Pioneer genetics and offer additional convenience to growers.

For example, for more than five years Pioneer research agronomists and scientists have conducted proprietary research on the effectiveness of various insecticide seed treatments on seed corn. The evaluation includes germination, stand establishment and yield performance. Findings of this research help determine which seed treatments offer the best value and will be offered on Pioneer brand hybrids.

For corn, Pioneer currently offers two seed treatment options, enabling you to match the level of insect protection required by your conditions. According to seed treatment manufacturers' labels, early-season seed and seedling protection is available against secondary insects such as wireworm, white grub (larvae of May/June beetle, European chafer, Japanese beetle), seed corn maggot and flea beetle. Higher level protection is also available for control of not only secondary insects, but also black cutworm and corn rootworm.

For soybeans, customers have the option of purchasing Pioneer® brand soybean varieties treated with CruiserMaxx™ Beans seed treatment. CruiserMaxx Beans is an insecticide/fungicide seed treatment combination that offers growers protection against a broad-spectrum of early-season insects. According to the manufacturer’s label, CruiserMaxx Beans protects against soybean aphid, bean leaf beetle, seedcorn maggot and wireworm. In addition, it provides excellent protection against all major seed- and soil-borne disease pathogens, including Pythium, early-season Phytophthora, Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, seed-borne Sclerotinia, seed-borne Phomopsis and general seed rots

Seed treatments also are available or being evaluated for other Pioneer products. Ask your Pioneer sales professional for the latest agronomic data and other details about pre-applied insecticide seed treatments.
