Pioneer has been involved in the Indian seed marketplace through joint venture partnerships for more than 30 years. In 2001, we strengthened our commitment to the market by purchasing the outstanding joint venture shares and creating a wholly-owned subsidiary.

Pioneer sells five products in India, including corn, hybrid rice, pearl millet, sunflower, and mustard.

Pioneer has launched Single Cross Corn hybrids in India in the last few years which have helped farmers to get higher yields as compared to their existing hybrids.

Pioneer is one of the market leaders in hybrid rice. The hybrid rice research program at Pioneer was established in 1987 in Hyderabad. The first rice hybrid was released in 1993. The hybrid PHB71 was released in 1995 and is now the leading rice hybrid in the country.

Pioneer is also one of the market leaders in pearl millet. This crop was the foundation of our business prior to the growth of hybrid rice and corn, and continues to be a strong product.
