Safely Delaying the First Irrigation of Corn

The vegetative stage of corn is the least sensitive to water stress and judiciously delaying the first irrigation may offer an opportunity to conserve water and maintain profitability. To evaluate the effects of such a delay on corn grain yield and its physiological components, a nine-year study was conducted by Kansas State University researchers in northwestern Kansas. This article reports the results of that study.
