Pioneer BusinessPioneer established business operations in Hungary in 1975 offering elite seed corn and has now added to that offering, sunflower, canola and microbiological products (silage inoculants). Pioneer® brand products are sold in Hungary through a network of commissionaires and dealers, as well as directly to the farmer.
One of the world's largest seed production facilities is in Szarvas, which was considerably expanded in 2006. At full capacity, 32,000 tons of corn seed can be conditioned, packaged, and distributed each year. This capacity is two and one-half times greater than was possible when the production location opened in 1996. The plant now contracts approximately 10,000 hectares of corn a year.
Pioneer's new research center opened in Hódmezõvásárhely in 2008. The newly built facility is the result of an investment of USD 2 million. Both corn and sunflower breeding will take place there.
