Mexico is really four markets due to the immense amount of diversity. Farms range in size from several thousand hectares down to less than one hectare. Technology varies from 100 percent irrigated, high technology farms in the Northwest, all the way to hand planted open pollinated varieties and landraces on the tropical hillsides in the South. Corn growing elevations range from sea level to more than 2,000 meters above sea level. The diverse climates and markets mean that corn is being planted and/or harvested somewhere in Mexico year round.
