Pioneer BusinessPioneer began operations in Spain in 1981 as Semillas Pioneer S.A., yet Pioneer® brand products are well known in Spain for more than 40 years through other distribution channels. Pioneer Hi-Bred Spain S.L. the new denomination of the company since 2001, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., of Des Moines, Iowa.
In Spain, Pioneer sells seed of proprietary Pioneer® brand corn, sunflower, and sorghum hybrids, as well as varieties of alfalfa, rapeseed and wheat. The High Oleic and broomrape resistant sunflower hybrids are new segments specially developed for Pioneer that, along with rapeseed hybrids are becoming more interesting for the emergent industry of biofuels. Cotton seed from the main breeding programs in the world is also distributed by Pioneer in Spain. The Company markets crop-specific inoculants for use as additives for conservation on various silage forages and high moisture grain.
These products are distributed across Spain through efficient distribution channels which form the vital link between Pioneer and Spanish farmers. Also, an extensive network of around 50 Agronomy Service advisors attend to farmers' information needs and help identify the best Pioneer® product for each market segment.
