Most detasselers are teenagers, looking to make some extra money in the summer. For many, this will be their first job. As a crew leader, you'll be setting an example, helping members of your team develop a work ethic, maintain a positive attitude, and persevere when the job gets tough…and it will!
Pioneer believes as a crew leader, your safe and responsible actions are vital to help detasselers form a positive opinion about working. We will provide you with a lot of tools and information to help you work effectively with crew members and make the experience rewarding for everyone.
While your main responsibility is to get the detasseling done, the safety of your crew is always a top priority. You'll be provided with safety training materials and personal protective equipment, but it is critical that you provide the proper training and continuous supervision of your team. Additionally, it's important to provide lots of water to crew members and plan for breaks throughout the day.
Detasseling is tough, hot work. Workers should be compensated fairly for their work. Our most successful crews offer bonuses for workers - it's a great way to keep detasselers motivated, even when the work gets tough.
