Field Facts: Japanese Beetles in Soybeans

The Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica) was first identified in North America in 1916 in New Jersey and has since spread to at least half of the contiguous 48 states, and Canada as well. It is generally well-established east of the Mississippi River except for Florida and parts of several other states. Because it continues to spread, Japanese beetle quarantines are currently operated by the USDA-APHIS to protect the agriculture of the western US.
