Corn Hybrids With High Available Energy

Corn is considered the energy currency of livestock production. Livestock feeding industries around the world consume more than 70 percent of the U.S. annual corn grain crop. Defining the energy value of this grain is imperative to effective management of energy costs by livestock producers. Pioneer has developed a Near Infrared (NIR) rapid analysis technology for determining available energy concentration of whole corn grain. Using this tool, Pioneer has selected improved hybrids and characterized its existing hybrid lineup for Digestible Energy (DE) content. This Crop Insights describes Pioneer’s High Available Energy (HAE) designation for corn hybrids that produce grain with a mean DE concentration ranking above the industry average, and the importance of this rating to livestock producers.
