Pioneer Arms Sales Reps and Dealers With Knowledge to Battle Asian Soybean Rust

DES MOINES, Iowa, June 9, 2005 - Knowledge is key to early detection and management of Asian soybean rust. To help educate growers, Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., is distributing a comprehensive soybean rust diagnostic kit to all field sales professionals, contract seed growers and Pioneer seed production employees throughout North America.

Pioneer sent a select group of agronomists and researchers to Brazil to study soybean rust earlier this year. The diagnostic kit includes a DVD, CD, pocket field microscope, and educational materials based on rust information gathered during that trip as well as the latest Pioneer research on Asian soybean rust.

"These exclusive kits provide our sales professionals in the field with the information they need to assist growers should the disease surface in their local areas," says Dan Buck, Pioneer soybean marketing communications manager. "With more than 200 agronomists, plus more than 3,000 sales representatives and dealers who serve soybean growers in North America, Pioneer offers detection information and the latest, most practical rust management information. Production agronomists, who support Pioneer's contract seed growers, are using this information to assure reliable supplies of soybean seed for 2006 planting."

Buck adds that scouting to detect fungal lesions early is key to an effective disease-management program. Pioneer sales professionals will be able to help educate and assist customers in identifying rust, choosing the right fungicide and correct application, so the disease can be managed.

Growers can contact their local Pioneer sales representative or dealer if they have questions regarding soybean rust detection and management.
