When does detasseling start?

Depending on what state you live in, work will begin anywhere from mid-June to early July.

How long does detasseling last?

Typically 2-4 weeks, depending on the weather.

How old do you have to be to detassel?

Following are the state requirements and each location’s required age, if different.

Iowa – 14
Illinois - 12
Indiana – 12, prefer 13
Michigan – 13, prefer 14
Texas – 12, prefer 14
Washington - 14
Canada - 14

How much money will I earn?

Detasselers earn at least the state or federal minimum wage, whichever is greater. Additional pay is determined by the crew leader and will be clarified in writing. If you have questions, ask your detasseling leader or a DuPont Pioneer production location staff member.

How will I get to the field?

Crew leaders most often offer bus transportation to and from the fields. Pick up points are usually established in nearby towns.

How do I apply?

To apply, contact the closest contractor on this list for an application. Once you’ve applied, a crew leader or Pioneer representative will contact you with additional information.
