Joe Zhao wins National Science and Technology Progress Award

Research scientist Dr. Joe (Jianzhou) Zhao has won a National Science and Technology Progress Award of China, which is issued by the State Council of China.

 

Zhao was a major contributor on a team for a Bt cotton insect resistance management program in China with the Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Ag Sciences. Zhao has had an association with the Institute since 1994.

 

 

The award is granted based on four types of achievements:

·         New scientific and technological achievements that have been proved of great economic and social benefits

·         Those who have made creative contributions in the promotion, transfer and application of the existing science and technology, and have realized important economic and social benefits

·         Scientific and technological achievements that have made creative contribution to and realized important economic and social benefits in the key projects or facility research and enterprise technology transformation

·         Achievements that have made creative contribution to and achieved remarkable benefits in the work of scientific management and measurement, computation and scientific technology information collecting

 

The National Science and Technology Award was launched in 1985. The most recent award ceremony was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Jan. 14, 2011, with several top Chinese leaders in attendance.
