Planting Plots with Central-Fill Planters: Case IH® Early Riser® Planter

In-Depth Downloads

Today's high-capacity central-fill planters are making planting more efficient thanks to fewer stops on the turn rows to fill up.

The central tank does, however, create a challenge for growers who would like to put out product trials or other agronomic plots.

Follow these step-by-step instructions when planting plots with a Case IH Early Riser planter:

1. Shut off the bulk fill fan by putting the hydraulic lever in float or neutral. This is the fan that moves the seed from the tank out to row units.

2. Install orange cap (pictured below) on mini-hopper hose inlet to prevent seed remaining in the delivery hose from mixing with plot seed.

3. Early Riser planters from 2011 and after come with mini-hoppers. Open the mini-hopper lids and fill with plot seed.

A mini-hopper will plant approximately1/4-mile long plots depending on seed size.

4. If your Case IH Early Riser planter was manufactured prior to 2011, you will have to build a mini-hopper out of PVC. Start with a 6" diameter by 6" long piece of PVC and reduce it down so that it can be coupled with the meter inlet shown below.

5. Changing seed: Hoppers/meters may be vacuumed out with a shop vacuum or dumped out just like hopper units.
