Corn Response to Intensive Management

Corn Response to Intensive Management

Objectives

  • Evaluate corn yield response to intensive management in the Red River Valley of the North.
  • Intensive management factors included higher plant population and a high soil fertility program.

Study Description

Plot Layout:

On-farm, full field

Locations: Elbow Lake, MN
  Fergus Falls, MN
  Wheatland, ND

Pioneer® Brand Products:
      Elbow Lake       P9675AMRW-R™ (AMRW, RR2)
      Wheatland

P8906HR (HX1, LL, RR2)

Factors:
  • Population:

  • 34,000 plants/acre
    39,000 plants/acre

  • Fertility:
  • Base Fertility Program
            Normal grower practices
      High Fertility Program
            Base Fertility Program plus:
            50 lbs/acre Nitrogen
            75 lbs/acre Phosphorous
            25 lbs/acre Potassium
            19 lbs/acre Sulfur

    Results

    • Higher population was associated with increased yield at all 3 locations; with an average yield response of 14 bu/acre across locations.
    • Higher corn yields were observed with the high fertility program at Elbow Lake and Wheatland (12.4 bu/acre average increase) but not at Fergus Falls.

PIONEER® brand products are provided subject to the terms and conditions of purchase which are part of the labeling and purchase documents.  2012 data are based on average of all comparisons made in 3 locations through Nov. 21, 2012. Multi-year and multi-location is a better predictor of future performance. Do not use these or any other data from a limited number of trials as a significant factor in product selection. Product responses are variable and subject to a variety of environmental, disease and pest pressures. Individual results may vary.
