Crop Update from Northeast Indiana

Pioneer Field Agronomist, Lance Shepherd, provides a field update from Day 1 of the Eastern route.

Crop Conditions - Northwest Indiana

  • Conditions variable across NW Indiana due to wet planting conditions followed by dry weather in July.
  • Both early and late-planted across NE Indiana corn show poor root development due to difficult planting conditions.
  • Watch for Northern Corn Leaf Blight and Tar Spot.

Crop Conditions - Central Nebraska

Corn

  • Central Nebraska in better shape than a lot of places in the U.S.
  • Most corn acres in fair to slightly below average condition.
  • Multiple instances of lowland flooding.
  • Corn plants non-uniform across many fields.

Soybeans

  • Slow early growth & development.
  • Few fields showing lodging, pod counts look normal.
  • Watch for pressure from thistle caterpillars & white mold.
