We’ve Got Answers About Enlist E3® Soybeans

Something went wrong. Please try again later...

Millions of acres are switching to Enlist E3® soybeans in 2021. As momentum builds, we've received hundreds of questions from farmers who are excited to plant Enlist E3 soybeans. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about this innovative soybean weed control system. If you have additional questions, contact your local Pioneer team or check out the resources below. And remember, always read and follow label directions.

  1. What over-the-top herbicides can I use with Enlist E3® soybeans?

Enlist E3 soybeans have three herbicide tolerances — 2,4-D choline, glyphosate and glufosinate — for over-the-top applications of Enlist One® and Enlist Duo® herbicides, as well as glufosinate and glyphosate. This allows you to use a program approach to optimize weed control and help control weeds in the current season while limiting development of herbicide-resistant weeds in the future.

  2. How are Enlist E3 soybeans different from dicamba-tolerant soybeans?

Enlist E3 soybeans have a different combination of herbicide tolerances than dicamba-tolerant soybeans. The primary difference is that you can apply Enlist herbicides — Enlist One or Enlist Duo — over the top of Enlist E3 soybeans.

    Enlist herbicides have:

    • Near-zero volatility
    • Reduced physical drift potential
    • Better handling characteristics
    • A longer application window, through R2 or the full flowering stage
  3. Can I plant Enlist E3 soybeans if nearby fields are planted to dicamba-tolerant soybeans?

Enlist E3 soybeans are compatible with soybeans without the Enlist trait. You can apply Enlist™ herbicides on Enlist E3® soybeans planted right next to these compatible crops without a buffer. Enlist E3 soybeans provide tolerance to 2,4-D choline, glyphosate and glufosinate; they are not tolerant to dicamba. See the Enlist product label or Enlist product use guide for more information.

  1. Can I grow Enlist E3 soybeans alongside other crops?

Enlist herbicides feature near-zero volatility and reduced potential for physical drift so Enlist E3 soybeans can be grown near compatible crops. You can apply Enlist herbicides on Enlist E3 soybeans planted right next to these compatible crops without a buffer when the wind is blowing within labeled wind speed range. Common compatible crops include:

    • Soybeans without the Enlist™ trait
    • Corn
    • Wheat
    • Alfalfa
    • Rice
    • Peanuts
    • Sorghum

Susceptible crops have a higher relative sensitivity to 2,4-D choline. It’s okay to spray when wind is blowing away from susceptible crops. Common susceptible crops include:

    • Cotton without Enlist trait
    • Grapes
    • Cucurbits
    • Fruiting vegetables
    • Tomatoes
    • Tobacco
  2. Can I control glyphosate-resistant weeds with the Enlist weed control system?

The Enlist™ weed control system provides an effective tool to use against herbicide-resistant weeds including glyphosate-resistant weeds, including but not limited to:

    • Common ragweed
    • Giant ragweed
    • Lambsquarters
    • Marestail
    • Morningglory
    • Pigweed (including Palmer amaranth)
    • Velvetleaf
    • Waterhemp

The Enlist trait provides flexibility to utilize a program approach to manage weeds with unique tools such as a tankmix of Enlist One and Liberty® herbicide.

  3. Should I use pre-emergence residual herbicides with the Enlist weed control program?

A preemergence residual herbicide will set you up for better success when you make postemergence applications of an Enlist herbicide.

Using a preemergence herbicide as part of an integrated program approach helps improve weed control, reduce weed competition during key stages of crop growth and manage herbicide resistance.
