Objectives

  • Test performance of Plenish® high oleic soybean varieties in MI against key commercial checks.
  • Evaluate the effects of different weed control practices on soybean fatty acid (oil) profiles.
  • Evaluate early-season crop injury from herbicide treatments on Plenish soybean varieties.

Results

  • The 2012 season was marked by extremely dry conditions which led to poor activity with the pre-emergence treatments. A POST application was added to the planned PRE-only program (Envive + Prowl H2O).
  • There was a significant reduction in yield with the PRE fb POST treatment due to the lack of control with the PRE and large weed size (~8 in.) at the time of the POST application. Yield did not differ among the other weed control programs.
  • Oil profiles were consistent across weed control programs for both Plenish and leader soybean varieties.
  • No herbicide injury was observed with any variety or weed control program.
  • Differences in yield were observed among soybean varieties.
  • Average oleic acid content was over 78% for all Plenish soybean varieties, compared to 30% and 35% for the 2 leader varieties.
